Very anxious for new episodes. *update 2/8/24* The first season of this podcast truly was brilliant. But then afterwards, particularly after the show Matthew did on his ego, the well ran dry. The podcast started lacking in content during season 2 and the truly fascinating and unique topics that...Read full review »

Matthew Syde tells compelling stories (good so far) but then draws conclusions that are unconvincing, superficial, or obvious. Or all three. Example? If we can’t eliminate nuclear weapons it would be good to reduce their number. Doh!

This is eye opening science, narrated like a True Crime podcast. Addictive and for almost all ages. EVERYONE should listen to The West and The Rest episode.

Very good Podcast, with excellent content, clean lnguage, and thoughtful episodes. Most of the episodes are of an uplifting, and inspiring nature. All episodes belie a thoughtful host, insightful and “sideways” means of looking at things. Highly recommended.

This is a fantastic and captivating podcast so expertly produced. The theme song is like fingernails scratching a blackboard, but simple enough to avoid for the most part. I’m hoping this podcast continues for years to come!

Thank you Matthew for your collection of stories of alternative views on our lives. It's always interesting and intriguing what will you bring up next. The Stockholm syndrome is my favorite one, I think. But every episode brings something new. Thank you for this!Read full review »

Just as with the first series, the kick off episode of S2 was cracking. Engaging, interesting, satisfying and moreish. Well worth your time. Also, Syed often makes you feel clever.

Looking at events with an open mind is a way to enlarge your perspectives and, hopefully, your brain; and guess what, become more empathetic. One thing modern society seems is killing are mirror neurons > empathy.

Every episode leaves me with a feeling of having my view of the world broadened. And there’s always a twist. I love it.

Interesting topics, but handled with inadequate intellectual rigour. Too sensational, like how the Reader Digest handles scientific/philosophical subjects.
pp3535 via Apple Podcasts · Thailand · 04/01/21
Every episode presents a new paradigm for the human experience using a combination of story-telling, interviews and research. Beautifully produced. Can’t wait for the next episode.

Smashing Security podcast brought me here and from the first episode I was hooked. Show opened my eyes on some subjects and I started questioning my point of views. Before judging anyone, before making statements that might caused damage to other person- look side ways.

A little spooky in tone but awesome. Keep it up Mr Syed.

A great pod from Matthew Syed showing his usual thoughtful insight to look at things differently - I hope he takes a look at the UK’s abysmal draconian lockdown policy in a future episode (lots of similarities to vested interests I’d suggest)
Thin Boy via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 03/18/21
On one episode in so far but already enjoying his. I’ve read some of Syed’s books and heard him speak and know the kind of thing that interest him so am already pretty sure I’m going to find this podcast fascinating. I’m very glad I found this.
