Gabfest is fun; I like Andy Bowers' voice best
I do like the Gabfest, so there. They come across as highly privileged intelligencia, but I like the information. And, DUH, they *are* highly privileged intelligencia (that and $10 can get you a coffee at Starbucks, today). They've probably worked their tails off to get there. They are the earnest and serious young thinkers in high school who annoyed the crud out of everyone and skewed the curve. I still find what they have to say useful and informative. I don't want to have to think about everything in a highly stylized intellectual way.. and they do it for me. I can now sound snobby and informed when I need to. :) Emily comes off as a more giggly type than I can stomach sometimes... but she is great when discussing the Supreme Court. So it's all an act... conscious or not. I wish Andy Bowers still read the regular Slate's. I really really really like his voice. Remember that he is reading articles that many times COME FROM these gabfesters... so it's mainly their smug tone that is hard to take for many people. Just picture them all in J.C. Penny underwear. It's a great equalizer.Read full review »
