Keep Gabfests Out Of Stories
I use to subscribe to Slate's podcasts almost 7 years ago. Andy use to do all the stories Monday-Thursday and I'd sit through a Gabfest Friday. Then Andy left to work on SlateV, then the XX Gabfest came, some Sports one followed, then book club, and soon enough the podcast became more about the editors whimsical opinions than the stories themselves. I dropped Slate from my daily reads and my daily podcasts, and flipped over to HowStuffWorks and NPR. I've come back years later, only to see that the Gabfest disease has spread. I guess the tickets they sell for live events make money - and you get to rub shoulders with important people. Valuable things in Washington DC I'm sure, but pointless for the listening general at large. Still, every once and a while they've a great story they put up. I sort the podcasts by time and download the shortest ones - usually these are podcasts that contain actually stories. I could never subscribe to the podcast again, but for the few articles they have left, I give it 3 starsRead full review »

I find myself completely disagreeing with all the anti-gabfest reviewers. I love Andy Bowers, but some intelligent, light-hearted banter is always a nice reward at the end of a week.

I have been as listener since 2008, and while I miss the daily articles, I think the shows such as the gabfests are some of the best journalism out there. Kudos and keep up the great work slate!
