slate gabfest not fun, not informative
The Gab Fest is at it's best when its regulars (Emily Bazelon, John Dickerson & David Plotz) are on hiatus. Unless they take a hike, the whole show should get the yank. David Plotz is the worst offender. Neither funny, nor informed (he consistently brags about not knowing anything about a topic except what either Emily or John has just said--and it never prevents him from chiming in with his 2 cents) his most prominent feature is his strident ego and abrassive tone. He consistently interjects the show with 'know nothing" elitisim which is a fitting counterpart to Rush Limbaugh and other dispensors of hot air. Slate's daily pod casts are good, the cultural gab fest is also fine (excellent to ok depending on how interested you are in the topic). The gab fest is a great example of the success of personality over journalistic merit.Read full review »

The...Read full review »
