The Taste of Love
Presently sat early morning, familiar mug in hand, and ache in my heart, the grey veil of wildfire smoke obliterating all but what’s within fifty feet of my window. I’m for a brief time, swept into Paris kitchens and London attics. Both cities have been walked through and come to mind vividly, as I listen to this poignant podcast. I think of my own grief, the brokenness of it, and the recipes that brought peace and comfort as I followed steps both familiar and foreign. I think of food as love, recalling the joy of watching my son as he appreciated and consumed the meals of his youth. Those dishes now bring his face before me again clearly, the cooking of them conjure him up before me as much as the ingredients themselves form the completed dish. Food is love, and grief is love, and what better way to both keep our loved ones with us and heal our broken hearts than with the mindfulness of cooking.
