Doesn’t matter if you know the song or not, this podcast contains very moving, interesting stories from all kinds of people about how the song affected them. Wonderful

I chanced upon this programme recently on the same day I recorded an interview about my 2020 English Channel Solo. This song was a huge inspiration and i played it repeatedly on my car journeys to Dover Channel Training. It was also the soundtrack to the video of my swim. For me, the Matt...Read full review »

Listening to the anecdotes linked with the selected songs and music is a great insight into the impact of music on our lives and emotions. I look forward to each podcast and just wish they were published more regularly - maybe weekly? Some suggestions - Turin Brakes - Fishing for a Dream Billie...Read full review »

Wonderful music, week after week. How do the production team find the speakers and why are so many American? Can I suggest ‘ Ich will euch wiedersehen’ from Brahms Requiem?

Have been subscribing this podcast for years. It’s always been one thing that carries me through in my difficult time. Music, stories shared by different people, it reminds me that I’m not alone with a certain situation, and music can always add positivities and light in the darkness.

I love Soul Music - such wonderful stories that often bring me to tears. I’d love to listen to the episode on Harvest Moon by Neil Young, but it’s not working. Please fix it!

Truly the best music podcast that exists. Incredible stories woven in with the theme of the song covered. Listen to every episode, even if you don’t know the song, it’s worth it.

I just found this podcast after a friend suggested it. I listened to a couple and loved them and then saw the Harvest Moon episode pop up. But it won’t play!!!! Argh!!!! Can you fix it? Otherwise it a wonderful podcast. 😁

Oh my, I just randomly opened one episode, and I just felt so moved, it added so much depth to the song, and it kinda make me feel that people connection during this quanrantine time

Unfortunately the first episode of this podcast I attempted to listen to is Toto’s Africa. I highly recommend the producers of this podcast look into the concept of White Saviours and consider how they can support Black people in telling their own stories going forward. I did not need to hear in...Read full review »

I only really listen to the ones where I already know the song and it always gives me a totally new perspective(s) on it. Really emotional sometimes

Wow
I came across this podcast a few years ago entirely by accident. I was browsing looking for something else and was intrigued by the title - soul music - and the juxtaposition with the subject song which was not a soul record. Over the last few years I have more than once been found sobbing my...Read full review »

This podcast isn't about the hottest new groups and it doesn't tell you why you should be listening to a particular artist. Soul Music is storytelling by the artists and by regular people. We all have those special songs, the ones that were the soundtrack to our childhood, the ones we...Read full review »

Such a beautiful program. Each episode full of different stories and so, so well produced. A real gem. Use it sparingly I think, not one to binge but to save for when you need reminding of how full and powerful and sad and amazing life can be.

One of my favourite podcasts in the whole world. Music that touches the soul, changes people, is linked to strong memories. Does what song exploder tries to do but a million times better.

How could it take me so long to discover this series? Well produced and researched, it covers many titles that have a special meaning and I’ll now make an effort to catch up via podcasts!

Absolutely loved this show, as did my 7 year old. Incredibly heart warming and I could listen to Cerys Matthews speak all day long.

The content is absolutely beautiful! It gives me a feeling of rare small river hide deep inside the forests; flowing slowly to freshen s.o mind! My favourite is True Color and Hallelujah.

These chosen songs are each celebrated through the stories told. We all connect to certain songs for whatever reason. It’s fun and sometimes deeply emotional to hear them explored here. So glad that this podcast has picked up again after its hiatus. It’s a favorite.

I love rock music. When I looked at the list of songs and pieces BBC covered for this show, rock was in the minority, so I was skeptical that I would get anything out of it. But I gave it a try, and was completely won over. Each show features interviews with a number of people who have been...Read full review »

I don't connect with all of the songs but the personal stories of those who do are always compelling. Always sad, always uplifting, the title of the show describes perfectly the concept of how we associate music with emotions based around life events and experiences. My wife and I really enjoy this podcast, and I share it with my teen sons too. I have not seen a new episode in months though and hope it is still active. I tried to listen to several episodes, too much sillyness. It suppose to be deep and soulful, not an exercise in nonstop senseless chatter. Wow, more people treating great music as a way of trying to make themselves feel important, it reminds of the b.s. crap I had to listen to in art...Read full review »
