Not good

If you listen to music to reinforce your social justice cred or have a weird thing for young women yelling into microphones then this is the show for you. If you actually just want to hear people talk about music, better keep looking.

Since you say it 6 times an episode. It’s —on like off/on.

Terrific, diverse and knowledgable music podcast!

Long-time listener, started when it was on WXRT. I’m 56 and the only shows I fast forward through are buried treasures. I’m getting old and can’t find interest in new music. Sad but true.

Sound Opinions is a part of my weekly routine. I look forward to it.

Sound Opinions is a staple of my music diet to find new music (which this show delivers in spades), as well as discover artists I missed and deepen my knowledge and appreciation of artists and their influences. Moreover, I really enjoy the hosts. It’s a remarkable show.

Thank you for the kind words - we thought the Bam Bam story was fascinating too! Love, the ladies at BUST

They sound like out of touch geezers yelling at kids to get off their lawn. I think they purposely mispronounce Patreon.

Just caught this one, about Mink DeVille and CBGBs. Loved it! Truly fantastic. I hope Greg and Jim do a deep dive on Willy’s music; they’d do it proud.

Really poor sound quality - inexcusable that one participant is super loud and others barely audible - sick of having to turn it up and down dozens of time per episode. DON’T YOU HAVE A PRODUCER AND ENGINEER being such an established show??

Long time listener, first time reviewer. Been listening since before podcasts were really a thing. Not proud, just sayin. My only issue is the guys always review the same types of music. There’s never any parody. If you are looking for guys who criticize the same old rock bands new or old, rap,...Read full review »

The original music geeks. These guys love talking music the good and the bad. You don’t have to be a music nerd to enjoy their conversations and you might be introduced to some new sounds. 5⭐️

Listened to and enjoyed this show for 10+ years, but DeRogatis couldn’t keep his political views out of the show and it just became too infuriating to tolerate. The Kavanaugh comment in the R Kelly episode was beyond the pale, like there was some sort of moral equivalence…completely asinine. ...Read full review »

Used to love listening to you guys. Discovered a lot of great new music through this show. However, I would recommend leaving your political views out of the show.

Used to enjoy the show when it was on NPR, gave the Woodstock ‘99 episode a listen and not sure when they became old pearl clutching boomers.

Two old white quasi hipster dudes talking to other white hipsters. U know, the kind who dish it but can’t take it. Opinion style: Totally predictable. I wouldn’t bother writing this xcept theyre sneery and smug as ... Verdict: Listen, laff and bin it.

Every once in awhile these guys really nail it, and some of the segments are great. However, doesn't get nearly as deep as a Trap Set, ProtonicReversal, Kreative Kontrol. A fine place to start, as high production values make it easy to listen to (even with annoying sponsor messages) but...Read full review »

Just discovered this podcast and love everything about it. Jim & Greg are excellent. The kind of guys you could talk to for hours on end about great music. Looking forward to hearing some of their older episodes

Surely someone with the ability to fix this has noticed. Right? Otherwise I love this show. Have listened for 15 years.

Just found this series and have been picking through past episodes. When he mentioned uncle Lou, I knew that we shared similar life experiences spending teenage years in the late 70s in record stores. Very respectful of The Ig, uncle Neil and The Rolling Stones. Gabba Gabba Hey

I'm a longtime fan of this show but now I'm going back to the start and listening to some of the ones I missed or don't remember well. I like the theme shows best - Cover Songs, First Impressions, Movie Music, etc. Jim and Greg are less combative then their models Siskel and Ebert and...Read full review »

I've enjoyed this show for years, but it really is time to mix it up, in format, and in how popular music history is defined. The assumption of the show is that we want to hear the opinions of Kot and Derogatis; Kot seems genuinely curious and generous, but"professor" Derogatis is...Read full review »

Jim and Greg are having the conversations I want to have about music. Love the listener suggestions too turning me on to music I’d never hear otherwise. Keeps this city person sane until I get back to Chicago.

Jim & Greg know a lot about music. Like most humans they have great taste in music and they have terrible taste in music. Listening to them talk about music can be incredibly gratifying and/or ridiculously annoying. Their opinions may not converge with your own (that’s kind of the whole...Read full review »

That DeRogatis dude is annoying. Maybe others can tolerate him, but I cannot. Wish someone would modify the app to eliminate him from the podcast.

Two know it all, insufferable asshats ruin music for everyone else. How do these two high art misfits get through the day without getting punched in the face?

The new Tool album is amazing, and they both thought it was crap. We’re talking about an album that has 5 absolutely incredibly written songs that are each over ten minutes long, but manage to make you think they are too short. The lyrics take on topics such as aging, the domino effect of nations...Read full review »

Sleeplessness led me to your podcast. Loved it, learned more about the history of R&B, Motown, Marvin Gaye’s artistry, Stevie, and the evolution of the Wah Wah Pedal, had no idea of the name, but recognized the sound. I look forward to finding you again.

The best music podcast out there. They have turned me on to some great bands I never would heard of. Even if an episode features a band I don’t care for, they make it interesting. Jim & Greg are infinitely knowledgeable and informative. I love this show!

This is no longer a music review podcast. Neo-marxist propoganda under the guise of being a music podcast.

Better than most music review podcasts, but Jim Derogatis might be the most insufferable conceited music critic around.
