The Ronneberg Lecture Series welcomes Louise Prockter, director of the Lunar and Planetary Institute in Houston, Texas, presenting “The Exploration of Europa.” Prockter’s research is focused on the geomorphology and structural geology of solar system bodies, with an emphasis on icy satellites. The Denison Museum and the Department of History welcome Emory Douglas, renowned revolutionary artist and minister of culture for the Black Panther Party, presenting an artist talk. Douglas made his mark on American culture through his thoughtful and provocative work. He served as art director and lead illustrator for the Party’s newspaper, for which he created widely distributed prints that now reflect American history and society in the 1960s and 1970s.

Dr. Fadhel Kaboub and students from his Monetary Theory class hold an open forum to raise awareness and inform the community of Ohio's devastating predatory lending practices. They are joined by various citizens and Newark Think Tank on Poverty members to discuss the issues, share the facts, and raise awareness. The Denison Museum welcomes artist Nathalie Miebach presenting “Weaving Science Data into Sculpture and Music.” Miebach explores the intersection of art and science by translating scientific data related to meteorology, ecology and oceanography into woven sculptures and musical scores and installations. Using both digital technologies and traditional crafts, Miebach examines how these two approaches can be used to eek out a more nuanced expression and understanding of information.

Denison University welcomes the Palestinian dance troupe Shoruq during their 2017 US Tour for an evening of traditional Debka dance. Shoruq is a troupe of 18 Palestinian teens, ages 12-16, from the Dheisheh Refugee Camp in Bethlehem, Palestine. The performance will be followed by a Q&A session to learn about the daily struggles of children living in a refugee camp.
