“A podcast from people who love Spider-Man, as a character, not as a franchise. The opinion on the show seems to be quite unanimously that the current Spider-Man output is... substandard to say the least. I happen to agree with them, and so I enjoy the podcast immensley as the presenters (particularly George Berryman who is an engine of truth) corroborate my opinions.
I would suggest however that to apease the other reviewers who find the show to be too negative, that someone who is very on board with the current Spider-Man output should be introduced as a presenter. I believe this would make the podcast even more interesting by turning it into a debate rather than a hate show (as long as that person wasn't regularly attacked too much - maybe get 2 in!?)
I do say 'hate show' with a tongue firmly in my cheek because the comments made on the show are done with humour and when something is good, they say it is good - I don't feel bogged down with negativity when listening (about the show anyway, but it does serve to make me even more depressed about Spider-Man). In fact, I enjoy everything about the show so much (including JR's jaded Eeyore-like apathy and ridiculing of what is and isn't a news story) that I try and listen to every episode. I do this even though I read Spider-Man in hardcover, and so there are potential spoilers for me every time, but I enjoy listening just too much to miss out.
So to conclude: if you like Spider-Man, you should check this out. However I do think widening the panel with a new viewpoint would grant it a must-listen status no matter which side of the fence you are on.”Read full review »
