The One Where I Talk To Poet, Jamie Louise Madigan
Listen now
Description
*TRIGGER WARNING*  There is talk of abuse and suicide in this episode. In this week’s episode, I’m talking to the fabulous Jamie Louise Madigan. Born in Dublin, but raised and living in Calgary, Canada, Jamie is a single, childfree woman who suffered at the hands of an emotionally abusive man when she was just 18 years old — the experience resulted in her writing a book of poems. ‘Lipstick Stains & Coffee Cups’ is a metaphorical reflection of the book broken down into two parts. The first half of the book covers the severity and immense psychological distress Jamie experienced after being involved with an abusive and manipulative partner. A lipstick stain is symbolic of this – how a tumultuous relationship leaves a lasting impression. The second half of the book displays a ground-breaking shift in perspective. A euphoric sense of comfort and warmth towards the eccentricities of life. The triumph of the human spirit. The adrenaline rush of new beginnings – like a piping hot cup of coffee.  In Jamie’s words: “A decade ago, my heart cracked open. These are the remnants.” Topics that Jamie & I cover are: how Jamie’s relationship turned abusive and she was isolated form friends and family; how for the first 6 months of their relationship, Jamie’s ex-boyfriend was lovely, kind and funny;the difference between his behaviour in public, and his behaviour behind closed doors;how Jamie ended up changing herself to be what he wanted;how her ex was openly critical about Jamie’s weight;how Jamie lost herself, and no longer knew who she was;the effect the relationship had on her other relationships, including her family;the story of how Jamie eventually left the relationship;Jamie’s book, Lipstick Stains & Coffee Cups;what Jamie means when she says she’s ‘healed too much’;how she now feels so much clarity in terms of who she is and what she will tolerate.Follow Jamie on Instagram: @jamielouisemadigan Check out Jamie’s website: https://www.jamielouisemadigan.com/  Buy the book here: https://www.jamielouisemadigan.com/book  Support the showCheck out my YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSuCiCzcPlAvxzQyHDrLoag Book a FREE 30 minute coaching 'taster' session HERE: https://calendly.com/lucymeggeson/30minute Fancy getting your hands on my FREE PDF 'The Top 10 Most Irritating Questions That Single People Get Asked On The Regular...& How To (Devilishly) Respond'?
