Amazing

Brilliant podcast. True life stories interwoven with true to life information. Each episode building onto the next and from the last. The only thing is the actors and the real life people hard to tell apart, but this did not detract from a well thought out podcast. I can’t wait for the next facet...Read full review »

This was a very cool podcast. I recommend it for ages 10 and over.

A lot of details that effected the planes manufacture were very good. The research seems genuine and thorough, I really enjoyed it. The only reason for deducting 1 star was the music. Modern hard Rock music for a WW2 history subject was a little weird and out of place, as if it was trying to be...Read full review »

This podcast provides new insight into the early manufacture of the Spitfire and adds a human element. The podcast brings the story to life with first hand interviews and accounts that lets you appreciate a little bit of the stress and terror that local people endured.

A great story ruined by incongruous Top Gear style music and vacuous narration.

Listen on the BBC Sounds app where the episodes are not in the frustrating reverse order!

An amazing story well told. Quality production.

Automatic play cannot function as it should as series seems to have been uploaded backwards.

Interesting presentation of the facts, backed up with comment: some by actors, some by relatives, some by experts or archive footage. Each episode focuses on a different aspect/hurdle to the production of the spitfire and how these trials were overcome. Much of the comment is from the perspective...Read full review »

This podcast was very insightful and a real pleasure to listen to. The story of unsung heroes manufacturing our beloved Spitfire under the immense pressure of war. Made me feel very proud & grateful of their achievements and I’m so glad I got understand more of their story. Highly...Read full review »

Really loved the series with the different stories and facts making it possible for each episode to stand alone as a window into the role this magnificent aircraft played in WW2, but sorry the choice of music was dreadful, personally would have much preferred something from the era and not...Read full review »

Some great oral history from the people who built Spitfires, mixed with some dramatisation and history narration. The World Service podcasts are really worth listening to this year and very high production quality.

Loved this series! Listening to it every Thursday was a top priority. A gripping set of stories, well paced and well told.

I’m Canadian, but my mum was English... I heard many terrifying stories of running from bombs. Nice to hear this story that portrays not just technology but also stiff upper lip resilience & ingenuity. Spitfires are cool.

I have really enjoyed this series. Well done to all involved bringing this series to us. Thank,

This has been an enjoyable story to listen to, but I also think the audio mixing could be a bit better. Some of the voices vary in volume and the music is never very present even though the theme song is excellent and the ads for it sound amazing. I’m enjoying it, though!

This is an informative podcast but the sound mixing needs some adjustment. In the last episode, the sound of Merlin engines and of music obscured the narration.

Great podcast from the BBC. A great podcast if you are interested in the Spitfire or WWII in general.

Really interesting with some new perspectives on the iconic plane

Great series but on occasions the sound effects make it difficult to hear the story.

Cannot understand why the sound effects of engine noises etc are mixed so loud over the voiceovers that you cannot hear what is being said?? Bizarre.

I am captivated with this podcast! The blend of narration, archive footage, oral history recordings and diaries/letters voiced by actors is wonderful. Full of amazing information, atmosphere and so evocative. I can’t wait for the next episode :)

The story of the spitfire but seems to be told indirectly through the love lives of a secterary and a mechanic. More like a dram then. Not my cup of tea sorry.

As usual the BBC does a good job putting a podcast together that is interesting, well paced and clear. Hugh Theseira Malaysia

I am going to stick with this, because I’m fascinated — but what’s with the techno/dance music at the beginning? So, so unnecessary. Ugh. Trying to be down with the kids? 🙄
