When I visited Uganda in 2009 the Principal and Teachers were meeting abouttheir 5 year plan in the old music room. I surprised them and was so pleased to meet them. They were in the middle of figuring out how to contact their Alumni , the old girls and boys.It costs $70 to send a child to school there, including lunches , unforms and books.This is an investment in future generations. Photo: Assembly room at Aga Khan Secondary taken in 2009I was 15 years old when I had to leave. Listen to my story abou my last day in Uganda and getting ready to travel to Oregon. I was leaving my parents, family, friends, dogs , homes with a $100 in my pocket and alone.I left form 3 at the Aga Khan Secondary school without saying goodbye to friends and teachers.Today the school has been restored thanks to many people. They are still fundraing to continue to improve this wonderful school....

Lella came to Canda with Shamas Umedaly.She loved Canada and couldnt wait to get hereShe had 5 children and grandchildren Farhan, Aaleeya, Rehannah, Nareena, Aryannah, Tariq, Aari and TareckSon in laws Terry Ketter, Andrew Spence ( deceased) , Gary Switlo ( Deceased)Daughter in laws Yasmin Verjee and Susan PurkissLella has recently written a cookbook called Mamajee's kitchen which is a Canadian best seller.Thanks Mom for being such a great mother, grandmother and for being such an adventurer....

Lella Umedaly ( nee keshavjee)left South Africa in her teens to marry Shamas Umedaly in Uganda. She had 5 children, Nzeera, Mossadiq, Muneera, Umeeda and Hamed.
