I’m in awe of all the editors who created the Roundtable Podcast! Each has taken Shawn Coyne’s Story Grid methodology to heart and has assimilated the knowledge to produce an amazing body of work from which we can learn. I can’t begin to imagine the time invested in preparing for each...Read full review »

This is such a well-organized show and the passion and knowledge of the Roundtablers makes it fun to listen to. I almost always learn something important to my craft, even if the genre is not one that I’m interested in at the moment.

I'm adding to my original review below. I'm removing a star, down from three to two. The podcast made some improvements since they began. The opening comments are more succinct, and they seem to be choosing better films. However, the discussions sometimes veer away from an analysis of a...Read full review »

This is for geeks struggling to pinpoint the specifics of how to tell a working Story. A worthy supplement to Shawn Coyne’s Story Grid book.

This is such a huge gift, having experienced editors analyze stories across a broad range of genres. Absolutely fantastic.

I absolutely love listening to this podcast and playing along with the analysis for movies I’ve seen. The editors really do their homework and show their depth of knowledge and it’s super interesting when they disagree. A must-listen for any story nerd.

...question the notion of how airtight analysis is, and therefore, whether it's all that import to be so picky about the whole Story Grid construct. Honestly, I'm a huge fan of SG, both the book and podcast, which has helped me immensely in creating story alongside Larry Brooks' Story...Read full review »

I didn't realize what masters Shawn Coyne and Tim Granhl are in presentation and personality until I listened to the spin-off Story Grid Editor Roundtable. The informaiton is helpful but listening to each presentor's voice and narration is distracting and grading on my nerves. Your on...Read full review »

The discussion of how films become great based on the story grid method is fascinating. As someone that is not an editor and is only attempting to be a writer I found it very useful to hear the breakdown of each genre. I'm looking forward to how the discussion continues to progress as this...Read full review »

I’ve already learned a lot about why certain stories work the way they do and I will be applying these principles to my writing. Can’t wait to hear more from the Story Grid Editors!

it's okaym but the problem is that these movies are only examples of mixed genres, or could arguablely be subgenres of large genres. Alien is more science fiction/.horror. Hit Fuzz is comedy or satire/thriller. Also ,there is no real main character in Alien. though the rountable treats it as...Read full review »

I’m an editor and I love this show. It’s really helpful to hear breakdowns of iconic stories. I will be using these episodes to help clients understand what readers will expect from stories in the genre they write in. What plot points do they need to hit? How can they progressively raise the...Read full review »

For the fans of Story Grid, this is a great addition. It discusses well-known stories using the Story Grid method.

This is a second generation application of Shawn Coyne’s method of understanding why a story works and where to adjust it if it doesn’t. The podcasters prepare, so our listening time isn’t wasted. Their explanations of how each story “fits the Grid” teach or reinforce the method of dissecting...Read full review »
