Absolutely fantastic listen, started as one thing and then completely turned into something else. Very moving, made me laugh out loud at times and cry at other times. How complex people are! Fascinating listen!

One of the best and most infatuating podcasts I’ve listened to. Absolutely delves into places I wasn’t sure I was ready to learn about but so glad that I have. Continually engages and never disappoints.

Please please finish this story I want to know so much more.....John B’s death literally hit me like a ton of bricks bc I was so into this podcast. But I was disappointed that the story just kinda ended.

The storytelling and layout made this story everything. I quickly adored the characters and have listened to it twice already. There was an episode that brings me to sobbing every time but it’s because you feel like you know these people on the most personal level. Highly recommend!!!

I think the team was doing a fine job trying to create a story but I cannot listen to this psychotic man, John any longer. I wish you would at least bleep out when he takes Hid’s name in vain. This story makes Alabama look really backward but much of it is due to this possibly depressed savant...Read full review »

Good story. However, not a true crime podcast. Decent listen about an interesting man but almost zero crime.

This one really drew me in and I could hardly stand the wait between episodes!

I loved how Brian took us into a maze literally with John’s garden and figuratively with the complicated lives of all of the people in John’s life. I have no idea if podcasts have their own award show but I would nominate this for Best Podcast of the year!

Not to sound clinical but his brain could have been an excellent case study for highly intelligent with depression. Peace be with you John.

What an interesting person John sounds like. Story well told but where’s the gold??? 😜

I went in to this podcast expecting a true crime podcast similar to Serial, and in the first episode it seems possible. But then you realize the true direction of the story and it’s a wonderful and heartbreaking surprise. Having come from a small town in a backwater myself, some of the...Read full review »

The last few episodes. I really enjoyed it overall until then. But kind of lost it’s track and we never got a satisfying ending. Not a true, true crime podcast. Just a good story with some tangents.

I am amazed at the dedication it took to pick this story up and follow it where it led. This is so well done, I totally binged-listened

This is my first podcast & I was stuck on it from the first 10 minutes on that I started on my drive home from work, continued through the walk from my driveway into the house & that I finished that evening laying in bed. I’m usually not one to have that long of an attention span or the...Read full review »

Excellent journalism at its best. Suspense, greed and theft are embedded within. I’m only a few episodes in but it has captivated me.

Not even sure why this was made, a bunch of rambling and pointless talking about pointless things . By the end I found my self asking why did I listen and why this was even made.

Started listening to episode 1 right before a 5. I binged it. I even wept in parts, not sure why, but I did. Highly recommend.

LOVE this podcast! After the second episode I was hooked. Soooo many emotions! John made me cry. He was truly a loose canon with his emotions/thoughts but an amazing person! Ahhh I seriously didn’t wanna go to my second job I wanted to just binge the entire season in 1 day!

This little gem is everything you could ever want from a podcast. Brian is a skilled, tactful and cheeky host and producer. His careful approach and honest rapport with the people he encounters in ShitTown should be used as a "how to deal with people in everyday life" handbook. I could...Read full review »

A crime? The accused? Fact? Fiction? A redneck Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Full of tall tales and too much truth for this backwoods town in Alabama. The even keel of the narrator’s bland voice is required to let all the story’s characters shine through. Clock-making and...Read full review »

Great pod, buddy of mine told me about it and once I started listening I had to finish. Life is difficult for us all in many ways. So many people I have met remind me of John. We can find meaning, self respect, hope, and love in a relationship with the creator of us all - the Lord. Thank you for...Read full review »

I am at a loss really, to say just how good this was. But I will try. The emotions that this story made me feel were numerous. The storytelling was wonderful. Thank you for introducing us to the brilliant mind of John B. I think we all fell in love with him and his crazy antics. I only wish he knew the positive impact he had on so many peoples lives. I will certainly continue to live life to its fullest with John B in mind. I know he is missed.

I laughed at the hilarity of John B. in the beginning because I know so many folks like that. Then I cried at the turn in the story and sat riveted as it unfolded. Thank you for this view into the tragic life of this crazy genius. I guess Mary Grace got her wish.
