I’m currently doing a 14-day hotel quarantine and the only respite from my room is the opportunity to walk circuits of the parking lot. Although I’m grateful for this, it was extremely tedious… until I discovered S*** Town. Now I look forward to doing the loop and sometimes forget I’m there until...Read full review »

Beautifully put together and fascinating to listen to.

I started listening to podcasts in the first lock down last year and someone recommended S Town. Honestly, the story is so captivating that the bar was set so very high that, even after listening to hundreds of podcasts since, I can’t find anything to match this. There is something about this...Read full review »

It starts strong and obviously produced very well but after the second or third episode, it’s just a story of people bickering over valuable possessions. Not much of a murder mystery. I listened to every episode waiting for something to happen. Disappointed

Wow
Wow. Just wow. Fantastic storytelling and a truly amazing and eye opening look at life. So glad I found it.

This has to be the most annoying exchange I’ve listened to. Is this guy a zach galifianakis character? Or is he just a bored loser still living at home with his family in his 40s.

Best podcast I have ever listened to. Listening to it again!! Thanks for giving a truck driver something to listen to.

Wow
I blacked out somewhere between Memphis and Fort Smith while listening to this podcast...fascinating and gripping from start to finish and soaked with tragedy.

With one more episode to go, all I can say is this is a remarkable story about unremarkable people . Well done to everyone involved.

So many people love this podcast, and I love Serial and TAL, but this podcast/story felt rather voyeuristic and exploitative.

I’ve never felt compelled to write a podcast review, but this one was such an outstanding piece of work that I wanted to encourage others to listen. It was incredibly eloquent and wove together a complicated story wonderfully. I highly recommend it.

Give it a chance, keep going: This starts out slow and we’re not used to waiting that out anymore. It becomes deeply fascinating and kept me listening at every opportunity

I feel like I’m eavesdropping. This is so intimate, insightful, horrifying, disgusting. A wonderful piece of listening. Another indicator of how Trump got to be a POTUS😬

My father in law works at the saw mill , that is talked about in this podcast. Crazy to hear some of the stories that come from there. As always a small town keeps secrets!

Over all this story is sad & depressing at times. I’ve been asked why I keep listening if that’s so, but I’m curious & keep wanting to hear more and more of what Brian finds. Now I’ll miss the people he spoke about now that I’ve finished it. RIP JB

If you’re looking for a murder mystery, this isn’t it. Originally I thought it was, but you quickly realize the main character is this genius, over paranoid, goofy, hillbilly who you will FALL IN LOVE WITH. Hearing him mumble on about this and that was the reason that I loved this podcast. He and...Read full review »

This is an incredible story. But it’s how it’s told and the characters which keep you hooked and I never wanted it to end. I’ve never heard anything like this before.... or since.. it’s incredible.

I keep coming back to this podcast, just finished it for the fourth time. Magical story telling by Brian Reed.

The way the story was written out in a way that was simultaneously digestible and just evasive enough to get the audience hooked and clamoring for more... genius! I listened to the whole podcast series within the span of one week, and cried at the end, both because it was a beautiful, relatable,...Read full review »

I am totally torn on this podcast. It is beautifully told, Brian Reed does a great job unfolding this story. And the main subject, John , is fascinating and quite an interesting eccentric. BUT this podcast takes details from one man’a private life and broadcasts it to the world, and it is very...Read full review »

Boring, weird and no relevance. This should not have been a story told
glaciernationalparklover via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 12/16/20
It’s a tail of murder! Without a murder. It’s a tale of lost treasure! With no treasure. It’s a tale of a guy who had no interest in airing the secrets of his personal life being exploited by the power of editing. The host acknowledges the subject would be horrified, but blows it off instantly...Read full review »

Highly recommended for long drives or long duration listening sessions. I enjoy educational and informative podcast the most, but since Serial, I’ve learned to enjoy narrative based podcasts. I think this podcast is brilliant. I find John so very fancy and I love the mysterious treasure hunt. The piercing and pain, the maze in his backyard and Mercury painted clicks. Wow.

I came to this from a mention in a review for the podcast Black Hands, and while lacking as strong of a narrative impetus, this is what I was looking for. Close study (closer and more sympathetic) of some very quirky and dysfunctional individuals, in part explaining a tragic outcome....Read full review »

I don't remember how I heard about this. At some point, I had downloaded an episode, and it sat on my phone for a long long time before I ever tried listening to it. Yesterday, I listened. It’s seriously one of the most bizarre things that just keeps unfolding. At 1st I thought the reporter was being story-catfished, but nope. I‘ve giggled, I’ve teared up, and I’ve ignored calls/messages and I can’t stop listening. As US democracy burns to the ground, that’ll have to wait, as I...Read full review »
