A show that unites, inspires, and sparks conversation.
A queer black man from the Midwest, I don’t come from a strong community that has been there to answer the burning questions I’ve always had. When you don’t come from a supportive foundation during childhood, it’s challenging to navigate adulthood as a queer man. Having access to content like Surface Level has equipped me with the knowledge to handle difficult situations and the courage to continue living a life filled with grace, forgiveness, boundaries, and acceptance of myself. My partner and I often listen to episodes together, and we find ourselves stopping and starting the show to have discussions and work through our own challenges. However, my favorite is when we both listen to the show separately and later come together to analyze our thoughts on particular topics shared on the show. Last but not least, I truly value how each of the three hosts have different perspectives and are constantly working to come together to challenge each other, while all working to become the best versions of themselves.

The hosts “go there” by questioning socio norms and each other. I like the Q/A format and...Read full review »
