Through high school, music was my life. I was one of those band kids who was never available to hang after school because I had to go to rehearsal. Then, in college I left my musical life behind when my piano couldn't fit in my dorm room. Years went by, then I recently discovered Switched on Pop, and it has flipped the switch and turned me onto music again. These two crazy smart and funny hosts give such insightful behind-the-scenes tours of current pop music I've never thought twice to anaylze musically before. What Nate and Charlie do is descibe the invisible and ineffable in a way that is accessible, engaging, and inspiring. An impressive feat. I never thought I'd say this, but they've given me a newfound appreciation for Taylor Swift and her creative genius. A doubly impressive feat. These guys are too self-assured and genuine to take a cynical stance just to look cool. Instead, they rely on a solid music theory background and a love for the the medium to deliver really good radio. They are my analgesic for carpal tunnel syndrome, and make working on the computer enjoyable. I fall into these episodes and get a bunch of work done listening to them. They've also inspired me to start playing music again. Just in time too. Now, I have a newborn and she is a beneficiary of my newly regained enthusiasm for music.Read full review »

I’m a fellow music nerd and pop lover, and I didn’t even know how much I needed this podcast until I stumbled upon it. I love the content, agree with about 70% of the ideas, and the tone of the show is wonderfully daffy. Well done!

Been waiting for something like this, to tease apart what makes catchy songs catchy. Intelligently. By people that know their stuff. And are entertaining. Asking too much? Not any more!

This is the best podcast out there taking a detailed look at pop music. From theory, to production, to the philosophical elements of a song, this podcast covers them all. Absolutely brilliant work.
