Today we’re reading your submissions about testing. The common denominators are how BORING it is, the absolutely absurd regulations at your schools, and lots and lots of puking for some reason. Let’s get into the highs and (mostly) lows of administering the tests from Uncle Sam. This episode turned out to be an inspo session, which is rare for us. Today, Chanea Bond is here to break down the realities of 'honors' classes. A lot of times, ‘honors' is less about smarts and more about thriving in classrooms without the distraction of behavioral issues. Mrs. Bond lives by the credo 'It's not you, it's the system’ and is here to remind us that sometimes the problem really is the kids – and that's perfectly okay. Surprise! A lot has happened since our last recorded episode. That’s right, Frazz had her baby! Of course she was literally having contractions while working on the podcast. This week we’re just shooting the shit. We talk about a few serious topics like school resources and the sisyphean struggle of finding enough Chromebook chargers, but mostly it’s a much-needed decompression session. There can be a lot of reasons you might want to transition out of the classroom. The good thing is that teaching equips you with a lot of transferable skills. Problem solving, project management, group communication, the list goes on and on. Some jobs out there may require additional degrees and certifications but many actually don’t! We’re used to a very credential-driven system within education but after you leave you’ll find that a lot of positions are much more flexible. Often employers...

Grad school isn’t worth it. Unfortunately, both of us are going. Graduate enrollment is on the decline because it's just not being incentivized. We did some “investigative journalism” and found that in most places the pay bump isn’t significant. In our opinion, you should only go if you can make a spreadsheet showing that the money you're investing is worth it. Unless you're rich then go have fun with your passions.  Patreon: patreon.com/teacherquittalk Frazz:...

Emetophobia trigger warning! You might want to skip the first five minutes if you’re sensitive to vomit. We asked for crazy observation stories and you delivered. Thanks for sharing with the class! Some of your admins are way too up in your business, some of them aren’t paying attention at all, and honestly we’re not sure which we prefer. Good luck with observation season and remember, you all get “exceeds expectations” in our book! Patreon: patreon.com/teacherquittalk Frazz:...

This week’s guest teaches *dun dun dun* middle school! According to WhenNerdsTeach, the key to being a successful jr. high teacher seems to be actually liking and caring about the kids. Who knew! All jokes aside, the secret sauce seems to be one part neutral mischief, one part isolated chaos, and one part targeted shenanigans.  @when_nerds_teach Patreon: patreon.com/teacherquittalk Frazz: tiktok.com/@mrs.frazzled Redacted: tiktok.com/@awalmartparkinglot Advertising Inquiries:...

Hello and welcome to podcast land! This episode’s about substitute teachers and it’s structured a little differently. We’re going to discuss subbing, read some of your submissions, and then a guest will be joining us. We got to sit down with a substitute teacher who went super viral on TikTok, @actuallyautistickatie. She's going to tell us about the video she shared and what happened at her sub assignment. To all of you out there who are subbing, thank you! Follow...

Welcome back, y’all! We're talking about times that schools have made the news. Usually when schools are in the news it's because something terrible happened. So we’re going to discuss funny bad things instead of depressing bad things! It’s just going to be a fun, silly day: a moose breaks into a district office, a school takes away bathroom mirrors, and a lobster prank goes wrong. AI could be compared to the printing press or the internet in how it will probably change society. It’s too late to have the conversation about whether or not kids should be using it - they already are. Instead, let’s turn our attention to literacy, cheating, and how students can use it in a positive way. Here’s the chart we mentioned! Schools are childcare but teachers aren’t babysitters. When the cost of childcare is out of reach for many Americans, the public education system is what allows parents to show up for work. Schools really do serve a function of society in that way but it's not the main objective. The childcare cliff is imminent and we’ll explain exactly what that means and how it might affect us all.  This episode is not sponsored by FEMA! The latest crisis to hit American education is climate change and natural disasters. The average number of natural disasters is expected to increase by 320 percent over the course of the next 20 years! Which is a lot of percents! We’ve both had a lot of experiences with natural catastrophes and it turns out you, dear listeners, do too! Sorry everything is on fire but at least we’re facing it together! Let's dive into the world of phones today where our jokes about brain rot aren’t really jokes. The data shows that kids get better test scores when they aren't glued to their screens, but snatching away their precious devices doesn't go down well – surprise, surprise.  At most schools, it's the teachers crafting phone procedures. Admins, it's time to step up and create school-wide policies. Teachers are drowning in responsibilities; let's not add phone politics to the mix. Tune in for more...

Welcome back to Teacher Quit Talk, where we podcast about things that we hate. Today we’re talking about standardized testing. Honestly, there are so many different angles to this issue that we could do a whole podcast on it alone. We’ll probably cover it more in the future. We're doing a Patreon submissions episode today - we’ve heard that you like those. Some of y’all are really going through it! Fortunately, there are a lot of good lessons and happy endings in here, too.
