Most Amusementing:
Refreshing to hear a quality UK/England-centric Podcast on anything retro gaming, even more so for one to be focused on home arcading. The two hosts are well prepared with a good flow in contents, speak in an entertaining, clear fashion and have good chemistry with one another. There are no annoying foreign accents and people speaking over each other to be found here thankfully as so is often the case. A lot of the time the contents can be pre-circa 1985/1986 which is not to my own personal taste which is a shame and the games/subject matter can be a little predictable/mainstream/cliché. Would be nice if they dug a little deeper to lesser known diamonds out there from their own experience (without just reading off a Wikipedia entry a la the Toaplan episode). Knowledge/experience-wise it's alright, nice though they obviously are, these blokes are not going to blow anyone away regarding this, especially the 'side-kick'. Just like two blokes rabbiting on down the pub about the good old days of arcades which is perfectly fine and entertaining. They have excellent interaction with their listeners via a very capable clear webpage but this is also sadly coupled with the obligatory-in-'Podcast-Land' clique attitude when it comes to mentioning their fwends/acquaintances that the average listener isn't impressed with and doesn't give a toss about/can't relate to. It can alienate the listener somewhat. But to be fair it's nowhere as near as bad as I've heard elsewhere. Retro Asylum and Retro Collect are infinitely worse in this respect. In conclusion, I listen, I enjoy and it's easily the best of its breed which is the highest compliment I can give. Thank you "guys" and all the best. Cheers, JAPJAC, SW Tokyo/Fleet Hampshire, arcading in the home since 1993.Read full review »
