This is a superbly told, heartbreaking and deeply thoughtful piece of work. I’m ashamed not to have known more about this utterly horrendous event; here’s hoping this podcast will mean that more people are forced to confront it. Ignore the 1* reviews: this deserves the widest audience.

Leaves out all inconvenient facts that go against the narrative. The truth stands on its own merits it doesn’t need your help. But I guess that’s not what gets listens these days

Thank you for telling this story. I was a child when it happened. I thought all adults are friendly and responsible like my parents and teachers. Now I know that even scientists can cause pain.

The day Philadelphia bombed itself is still contentious decades later, with many bad-faith actors trying to flatten the situation to a crazy cult that was blown up. This series takes the time to establish all the characters in the drama without overlooking their racism, abuse, hate, or other...Read full review »

I really enjoyed this podcast. However, there is another podcast called “Murder at Ryan’s Run,” that came out slightly earlier and if you listen to it, you'll be shocked at how much this podcast ("Africas vs. America") leaves out when it comes to the MOVE organization. I kinda feel...Read full review »

Such a powerful piece of work about a movement and tragedies that I never heard of, but now will never forget. Thank you for this.

The fact that these events are not well known just blows my mind. This podcast is so well made and really brings the story to life.

I listened to one episode and was immediately struck by the bias in reporting. Also, he throws the name "Move" without giving any background information about the group. I looked it up and learned that it was a cult. It reminded me of the Waco siege story. I don't think racism had...Read full review »

Well done and presented but biased towards Move. Lack of info on child abuse documented by Move members. This was a cult.

I wanted to love this series but I can’t look past the blatant disregard of documented abuse within move. The father of Birdie Africa was interviewed for this, he has spoken out in depth about Move’s violent efforts to keep Birdie away from him. Many other members of Move, including Mike Jr’s own...Read full review »

In-depth investigative journalism, exceptionally well written, edited, mixed, produced etc. with such an important story to be told. A story that many are unaware of and for those that are aware, almost certainly they weren’t taught half the true authentic details. Please share this with everyone...Read full review »

Normally I love CBC podcasts but I found a lot of issues with this podcast. First, the good parts: Matthew seems very interested in the subject and he conveys it well. I really love his voice and I would listen to future podcasts by him. The problem is that I would doubt the information in future...Read full review »

Best podcast of the year so far. Everyone should be listening to this incredible series. Strongly reported, beautiful written, wonderful audio. Should be on everyone’s must-listen lists.

While I knew of and remember the MOVE bombings, I always wrote it off to an incompetant mayor or police making a mistake. This podcast provides the story. It's not just a rant, it's objective and it's entertaining, and you learn about the characters behind the story. This is what a...Read full review »

Why have I never heard this history⁉️ Thank you for telling this! So important.

This is an incredible podcast about a piece of history that needs to be more known! “History is the lies we agree to” I’d like to add that I hope this is being made into a limited series to reach more people and more audiences- this story needs to be heard!

I’ve lived in Philadelphia for over 10 years and learned a lot I did not know about before on this awful event.

Covered extensively when it occurred! Don’t lie - You diminish yourself and your story otherwise.

This podcast sheds light on a dark era in Philadelphia’s history. Historic recordings reveal what was happening behind the curtain and document just how far the law would go to keep Black citizens down. Some of those clips are heartbreaking, some are infuriating, and all of them are a part of...Read full review »
