#TheConfessional: An emotional post-viewing discussion of #FruitvaleStation, The #OscarGrant Film
Listen now
Description
Fruitvale Station is the fictional account of an all too true story of the murder of Oscar Grant by Bay Area Rapid Transit police. I recorded this episode of the podcast moments after seeing an advanced screening of the film on Wednesday July 10th with my friend and former college roommate Dahni-El Giles. The movie is beautiful and hard to watch at the same time. You absolutely must see it. More info here http://www.fruitvalefilm.com/ In our conversation, Dahni-El and I reference the work of our friend Dr. Phillip Atiba Goff which you can find here: http://policingequity.org

Thursday May 4, 2017 I participated in a storytelling event at HousingWorks Bookstore in Manhattan. The title was "Teach Me You Did" and was a celebration of Star Wars Day, Teacher Appreciation Week, and the resistance. I shared the story of a family friend, James West, who taught me much.

Happy throwback Thursday all. In this post I read an article I wrote in Horizon, the school newspaper of the Sidwell Friends upper school. The article is from September 8, 1993. For more audio recordings of people reading articles out loud, visit http://baratun.de
