As someone who is Chinese but not caught up because I was raised in a western country, I clicked on this podcasts in hope to use Chinese saying in my daily life and just have it play in the background, however, when I heard the Chinese saying, that’s when I realised I’d have to check the actual...Read full review »

美国是世界第一的经济体,美国人不参加足球世界杯。中国是世界第二大经济体,中国也不参加世界杯。美国和中国都不踢世界杯,所以说美中不足。

Laszo provides an interesting look at the background behind Chengyus. I also especially like how he breaks down each character in the chengyu. However despite the many times he says the chengyus are useful, he never explains how they should be used. Even just knowing if it’s an object or an...Read full review »

I found the Chinese Sayings Podcast through its sister broadcast the China History Podcast (which is also excellent by the way) and I have found it a perfect compliment to the CHP. Episodes are just 10-15 minutes long and each covers a single Chinese saying, presented in the original language and...Read full review »

Any student of Chinese language will know how had it can be to memorize long lists of chengyu (Chinese idioms.) Each short episode focuses on a different chengyu and tells the story behind it, making them much easier to remember.

These podcasts are fun and understandable. The stories are great if you want to know the history behind a saying and the Chinese is not overwhelming if you’re u are new to the language (or don’t speak it at all). A well done, witty, and easy to listen to podcast.

Laszlo Montgomery, host of The China History Podcast, brings that same wonderful style to 成语, the 4-character idioms that make Chinese so colorful. In each episode, Laszlo gives you the story -- often from ancient China -- behind one of these short phrases. They're rich, colorful and give you...Read full review »
