Beautifully uncomfortable
If you’re looking for answers, or things wrapped up in a bow, or a clear narrative with a reliable slant, this isn’t the show for you. They have done a fantastic job here of creating a show that is truly real. The story is messy and flawed and uncomfortable. The perspective you think the narrator has on the town in the beginning ends up blurry and unclear. It makes you challenge how you think about court cases, narratives, memories, and guilt. It showcases how stories that seem like crystal clear cases of right and wrong, guilty and innocent, are really far more grey when you look inside. And how the people we want to write off to give ourselves the ease and comfort of a clear narrative deserve better. Generally, true crime podcasts are for entertainment, comforting us by confirming our fears and experiences. But this podcast genuinely made me a slightly better person.
