I checked out this cast after hearing it referenced in an episode of “Our Fake History” and am glad I did. Mark is entertaining and knowledgeable while serving up a healthy dose of sarcasm. If you’re a fan of OFH or “Hardcore History”, check this show out!

It is just what I need! Lovely history that is so interesting. The way these are told just tops them off!📖📚

I listen to a lot of podcasts. I’m fairly picky too. The Constant (via Marks talents) is, by far my favourite. Mark wears many hats, he is a dogged research, master orator and accomplished comedian. I spent numerous months listening to the entire library of the Constant. Marks work is informative...Read full review »

Making 2 Episodes out of content that used to be one episode. Substance great as ever.

This podcast is always entertaining; it's like dessert! But the 'Like a Son' episode was even more amazing and also relatable there at the end. It was so beautiful! Thank you for sharing this Mark, and congrats to you and yours!Read full review »

The presenter is very erudite, a great writer, and has a good sense of humor and comedic timing. I would invite the listener to listen to any of the episodes before “The Foolkiller”. Everything before that was pretty top notch. Everything was tight.” Episodes since then suffer from - higher...Read full review »

Been listening to The Constant since about 2018. Continues to deliver interesting, engaging and thought provoking content. Thanks Mark for all your wonderful work.

Well researched and entertainingly delivered. The background music drives me absolutely nuts sometimes (dial it back a notch or three, pretty please?) but the content more than makes up for it. This is my new favorite!

For years this has been the podcast I have to listen to the day it’s released. Each episode has been a delightful convoy along the scenic route of history, lead by a passion for seeing the whole picture and a rare, refreshing sense of whimsy. Not a fan of the new interview-style dynamics, but...Read full review »

I find this podcast refreshing! Interesting topics from an eyes wide open perspective. And a lot of humor

Have to say this is probably my favorite podcast. Every episode is very well produced and the topics vary widely so you never know what you are going to get. I’m always excited when a new episode shows up in my feed.

I’ve only listened to the last three episodes, but I love the stories and production so far. My only critique is the host’s cloying sarcasm. The episodes Rock Bottomless Parts 1 & 2 would have been so much more enjoyable if the host hadn’t made it clear from the get-go that he thinks everyone...Read full review »

I, for one, am here especially for the pretentious noise.

This podcast does one of the best job telling stories and making episodes from history of any podcast I’ve ever listened to. The presenter unfortunately has an annoying habit of holding historical figures to today’s ideological norms, which unfortunately gives people the idea that people from 200...Read full review »

Tidbits from diverse historical eras and regions are covered quite well. But the host sounds excited to a high pitch, is self-referential and needs to calm the presentation down. And throwing in random fact-comparisons, such as (in a recent episode) how something lasted the duration of a Kurosawa...Read full review »

This is astonishingly good, and the creator seems to have not only a historian's training, but enough knowledge of scientific thinking that he doesn't say things that are flat-out ignorant. He has a great ear for drama, mystery, and issues in the philosophy of science / pseudoscience and...Read full review »

I recently discovered The Constant and have been devouring the episodes. The episodes are both super interesting in content and so well told in form. Mark is a great storyteller, and he has got great stories to tell. Updated to add my 9-year-old’s review: “The way he tells a story is really...Read full review »

Always engaging and frequently hilarious, Mark doesn’t just find great stories in history, he finds great angles on those stories. The rabbit holes we get to follow him down are glorious.
timmoule via Apple Podcasts · Australia · 07/17/23
I like my podcasts sprawling, tangential, packed with well-researched facts about unusual historical subjects, and open about their research process, so The Constant is 100% up my alley. Highly recommended!

Great podcast! I wish I had discovered it sooner, but then I wouldn’t be able to binge all the old episodes while stuck in self-isolation with COVID.
Rebecca Jean via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 05/17/23
Some stories are fantastically interesting topics that deserve 5 stars. The ones that devolve into politics are not well researched and are often factually inaccurate and biased. The death in Disney episode was not enjoyable.

Mark Chrisler is like the most dynamic, energetic history professor you’ve ever had, going deep into topics that probably were missed by your history books. Now I am love with his wife Heather, who took over an episode to give Mark a bit of a spring break with a perfect episode about Walt Disney...Read full review »

There’s so much we know about everything now (or so we think). I love hearing about what we USED to think was true. Mark has a great sense of humor, and really does his research. I may be wrong about a lot of things, but I’m not wrong about this.

A liberal’s soapbox under the guise of a history podcast. What a waste.
KeelHaulUm via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 01/31/23
When Mark devotes more than one episode to a topic, it's going to be a real treat, because he does the research and isn't afraid to present new evidence that upends his previous episodes (see the multi-episode "Foolkiller" saga). One of Chicago's best current exports!Read full review »

I keep recommending this podcast because nobody knows how to tell a story like Mark Chrisler, but not enough people believe me. Too bad they’re all getting it wrong…

I miss the first episodes, 20-30 mins in lenght, that didn’t feel like I need to commit a full hour, sometimes more.

Not a bad history podcast. Entertaining & informative. Unfortunately it is very left-biased (I know, suprising, right?) and the host thinks he is extremely clever or cutesy sometimes when he is just being cringey. Mark is good when he gets things right, but he’s even better when he gets things wrong. It’s nice to have the storyteller break the fourth wall, to be honest with listeners. I’ve been following The Constant for nearly three years now, and I’m amazed by how deep Mark Chrysler delves in each fortnightly episode into whatever subject he’s been excavating.
