The censoring of the word “practice” is done so loudly that I literally almost lost control of my car when changing lanes one time. I have stopped listening to the podcast because it became unsafe while driving. The guests are great, but seriously, this is about art, you don’t need to censor a...Read full review »

A wonderful conversation with author of the book “ The Death of the Artist”; I only wish it had been longer! So much food for thought. Michael hits on many topics that are important to artists trying to navigate the ever-changing art world. I will definitely read this book.

I am not an artist, I just enjoy art. Michael brings on a variety of thoughtful guests who have some fascinating insights into the art world. I look forward to hearing more! For those starting out, the Hannah Wohl episodes are incredible!

Always informed, interesting and relevant. Michael is a great interviewer who doesn’t shy away from asking some more difficult questions to get to the core of what makes the art world go round. This is vital listening for anyone in the art world and those who want to know more!

I love the wide range of guests on here - some are more interesting than others for sure, but the host does a nice job of building a conversation - some are the big obvious questions we want to hear, but also taking some fun and fascinating detours along the way. Definitely worth listening to!

Michael does a great job engaging his guests, drawing insights out of the artists and the conversations. His pods always leave me thinking more deeply or differently about aspects of art, and that stimulation is essential. Highly recommend!

Nothing but respect for Michael Shawl. As a Contemporary Painter, this dialog is needed and vital for me to stay focused whilst in my studio.

I like that Michael asks uncomfortable questions, from an earnestly curious position - questions about money, connections, debt, access, etc. These at times awkward or indelicate questions are useful for transparency in the art worlds. No, or few, other art podcasts do this. Too often we...Read full review »

A very deep dive into the art world and its actors. I like how slow it is and how detailed the questions are. There is another artist or curator every time and the host circles the specific topic until it is clear. I like it.

I’ve been listening to Michael for years. I chuckled at some of the negative reviews thinking the authors haven’t had much experience with relationships. The Podcast has a lot of variety with its interviews including curators, authors, artists, magazine editors, educators, a residency evaluator...Read full review »

You have problems buddy. I had to actually look you up because I was not sure if you were only 15 years old or not. (didn’t want to scar a kid for being a goof) But you should CLEARLY know better! I love the insight so many artists and people in the industry from all over bring to this show. It's a pity the moments of learning and wisdom are CONSTANTLY interrupted by the host who asks some of the rudest questions I have every heard. Terrible jokes he will even interrupt his guests to...Read full review »

The most recent conversation with Cassie Thornton, and the one with Samuel Harvey, and the 4 with Max Haiven, prompted me to donate. I appreciate the long format, the in-depth questions, candid responses and world views. Lots more to go back and listen to (and listen to again). Thank you.

I enjoy this podcast immensely. Definitely gives the real perspective on the artist’s life and I like how the interviewer pushes for answers. I don’t live in an art capital and I’m way past 20 so I like hearing about what those crazy kids are up to.

This podcast continues to perpetuate the myths around the dysfunctional contemporary art community. Hard work/skill/ideas and you will succeed in the contemporary art field - NOT TRUE.
