“I rarely hear an interview that is disingenuous or even dishonest from Daily Signal podcasts. This interview was VERY disturbing. There was not a single security issue by the Administration that was not seriously undermined by the ridiculous and never ceasing qualifications. For example, he said that walls or barriers in the middle of a desert are ineffective, as if a barrier in the middle of a desert is even on the table for discussion. Then, he gives a statistic that only 13% of border infractions would be affected by a wall or barrier, as if this statistic is proof, descriptive proof, that such barriers are marginal; the implication: so why is the Administation wasting it's time on a barrier at all, when funds are scarce anyway? The entire tenor of the responses was calculated to discredit any argument that barriers per se are necessary and effective especially because they are a critical componant for a comprehensive border security solution- and this comprehensive approach is what is being opposed by both liberal/leftist Republicans and Democrats. Israel, being the most famous example (I am a Sabra) has a barrier/wall/fencing (just like the Administration wants) that is 99% effective for exactly the same reasons it would be effective in the USA. It is a necessary and vital componant of border security and the lack of such a componant or the insuffiient use of such a component means there is no effective border security. Instead of your interviewer just coming out and saying transparently that the Administration's emphasis and insistence on a wall/barrier/fence is unwarranted and thus its demands are an unreasonable oubstacle to resolving the shutdown and an unwarranted demand for effective border security, he qualified and qualified and qualified every single border security issue he chose to articulate. His argument was simply this: "walls/barriers/fences do not work because they make no definitive difference to an effective border security policy - they are an unwise use of taxpayer money. I agree with the Democrats and those Republicans who side with them." I would say much more, but I will stop, hoping my point has been sufficiently made.
