“I am honestly disgusted at the direction this podcast went in. What I thought was going to be an investigation into how a normal kid sadly descended into psychosis became a bizarre discussion of satanism (from what sounds like someone who actually believes summoning demons is real?????). The way the writer seemingly wrote a fanfiction about the last thoughts of this poor child on the night his psychosis took over made me feel physically ill. This entire podcast, they weren’t able to speak to anyone who actually interacted with tommy during the weeks his sickness started, so it was all basically the writer imagining what happened but not explicitly saying that’s what he was doing. I feel terribly for this poor family that their devastating story was handled with such a lack of care. True crime podcasts are a slippery slope, but if gone about the right way, they can be respectful and have a goal- whether it’s justice for the victims, or education on how to prevent the crime from happening ever again. I assumed the podcast would take this direction- explain what happened and maybe how to spot signs of psychosis in young adults. This could not have been further from what I experienced. Everyone involved should be ashamed.”
