“I'm a soccer fan who wants to learn more about the tactical side of the game. I like several of Howler's other podcasts, so this one should be a no-brainer, right?
Wrong. This podcast is unlistenable, and for more than one reason.
First, I see I'm not the only person to complain about the audio quality. A little editing/sound engineering would go a long way here. However, I've been known to put up with subpar audio if there are mitigating circumstances. Unfortunately, that isn't the case here.
Second, the host (normally there are two hosts, but one is taking some time off at the time of this writing) sounds like he has no idea how to host an audio program. Every episode is chock full of long pauses, flat delivery, etc. I'm not suggesting they go all morning drive DJ, but picking up the pace and livening things up a bit might help.
It's really unfortunate because the people behind this podcast are clearly knowledgeable about their subject matter (hence 2 stars instead of 1). But to translate that into a successful podcast requires that the product offer some entertainment value. Unfortunately, The Double Pivot fails to do that.
