Very insightful discussion about the in and out of academia. Two hosts are researchers in the health sector, but the podcast topics are quite universal across all disciplines.

Good info occasionally, but you have to sit through a lot to get to it. Definitely fails to take into account cultural barriers in academia. There were also a few instances where a quote was brought in, ironically by a person or culture of color, and the response was “I don’t know who originally...Read full review »

As a Hopkins grad and tenured associate professor, I find their advice to be right on target for junior faculty and those looking to transition to a tenure track position. I’ve told all of my advisees to subscribe.

There are some gems especially the specific aims podcast. Overall a nice glimpse into people who have had success at grants and writing. Agree with others some episodes seem long and could be edited. Also wish the topic of the podcast was covered first before they diverge on follow ups. Personal...Read full review »

I'm getting close to finishing my Ph.D. and I love hearing all their recommendations about grants, time management, collaboration, writing etc. They know how to keep it interesting during the roughly hour-long episodes, with the right dose of humor and reality. It would be great if they could...Read full review »

I subscribed after seeing an ad in Overcast as a non-academic interested in academia, thinking it would be an interesting peek behind the curtains of academia. Instead, after listening to episodes 1 and 4, I found it an exceedingly slow, even at 1.2x speed, and poorly edited gabfest of little...Read full review »

Roger and Elizabeth are very real hosts that give us a peek into their academic world. Their different departments and backgrounds help diversify the image of the tower - it's simply weird over there in medicine. They've brought in interesting guests and have taken some control over...Read full review »

I really enjoy listening to this podcast. It's great that the hosts have decided to pull the curtain back on many of the landmines in academia. I only wish they they were more attuned to issues of the identity/positionality of different faculty. They play close attention to rank of faculty,...Read full review »
