“Having come to Australia as a teenager from the UK in 1982, 6.5 years after the dismissal I was never that familiar with the events, only Whitlam’s incredible speech. Therefore, I was keen to understand and learn more. This podcast tells an amazing story through the eyes of a diverse group of people.
I was gripped by the story and the complexity of what lead to the events. The intriguing thing for me was that despite his popularity, Gough never was re-elected despite 2 elections. The fact still remains that he was a visionary and one can only imagine what Australia might have been had he been able to manage his ministers better and perhaps not as brash in his dealings with Kerr.
