Love the content and the format. But Aven has to keep voice level evenly up, and articulate end of sentences clearly. Mark can slow down his monologue sections. Other than that, great job.😊

I only just discovered this podcast. I’m listening to the back catalogue, working my way forward. I’ve only made it to episode 3: Pluto. I’m torn because I’m really intrigued by the content and want to tune in, BUT I stopped halfway through because I could not stand to listen to Aven ramble on...Read full review »

Sold as risky & thought provoking. But its just parochial pearl clutching from bubble dwelling academics. The hosts seem to be regressive lefties fully marinated in orthodox establishment hoaxes. The content is quite Interesting smart stuff, but leans towards safe pablum and virtue...Read full review »

the snarky political/social comments ruin what would be a very good podcast

Fascinating conversation leading down unexpected paths. In depth exploration of history and language. Erudite but fun. Guaranteed you’ll learn something every episode.

Covers a broad range of topics related to classical culture, medieval culture, and modern culture and how things we celebrate (or denigrate) today have connections to the past, with emphasis on how words have changed.

I enjoy this podcast quite a bit and enjoy the bits of history and etymology that I glean from it. A piece of hopefully constructive criticism I can impart is that Aven seems a little condescending to Mark on occasion, which can be a little uncomfortable for the audience, but which is something...Read full review »

I like linguistics, etymology and learning more about languages in general. This podcast can be filled with lots of great information on topics above. I did Latin in school because I loved learning about the origins of many of our modern languages. We also an excellent Latin teacher and it was a...Read full review »

There's a joy that I feel when listening to Mark and Aven that I can only show with my 5-star rating, though I wish it could be higher. I am not a classicist, nor am I a linguist, but I find every topic they cover to be compelling because of their enthusiasm for it. I know where to go when I...Read full review »

I'm not an academic, I've never studied the classics, I don't know any Greek or Latin or linguistics or etymologies (or cocktails, for that matter!), and yet this is one of my favorite podcasts. Two smart cookies talking things they love—you can't help but get sucked in. So happy...Read full review »

If two academics can not hold the interest of a yearning ear, my sympathy to students paying tuition.

Now, I am a big fan of linguistics but I hadn't ever really done too much research into Etymology. That's why I am so glad I found this podcast. It makes etymology and historical linguistics consumable! Even for folks like me that have very little foundation. Anyone can enjoy Mark and...Read full review »

I discovered the Endless Knot by accident, but I'm so glad I did! Mark & Sarah have a great dynamic as hosts. They are clearly extremely knowledgeable about their topics- each episode dives into the origins of words, phrases, pop culture- they do it all! I love that they have themed...Read full review »

I never thought I would be fascinated by an hour long discussion on beef - but I was. The hosts are smart and very well-read, which sometimes makes it hard to keep up with their literary references. All the same I’m glad they don’t dumb it down. I felt smarter at the end of every episode and I...Read full review »

Witty, charming, intriguing explorations of words even I don't know -- that surprised me! And revelations of unexpected depths and implications in words I do know. Plus a lot of delightful meanders and off-the-cuff comments along the way. Listen while you're stirring the bouillabaisse or...Read full review »

Astonishing connections between history and the present in both culture and language. Makes for substantive listening and reflection, but also some great cocktail party conversation starters.
