Bush & Blair-Iraq-David Dimbleby
Thanks for your hard work on this - It is still stunning to see how classily arrogant and obsessed were the US & UK were- jingoistic and simplistic assumptions about what was good for another complex and nuanced Arabic society. With the issue of WMD there was the warped and twisted conclusions from the weapons inspectors negative findings in line with desired conclusions that had already been “jumped to” - not by the poor inspectors who tried to report the truth but by Bush and Blair. The sources of so-called intelligence were frankly a sick joke and further evidence that the coalition’s arrogance in that it didn’t care sufficiently to carry out any investigation with any degree of probity or integrity - especially given the hundreds of thousands of lives at stake. No evidence at all that Bush and Blair sought out evidence leaning against the present existence WMD at all. Then after the war (when Iraq had become a sectarian nightmare for Iraqi’s citizens Blair’s then makes a show of being SINCERE about his BELIEFS in the rightness of the mission. This is the mission that created the predicted nightmare of death and destruction. This argument might have run if the millions involved throughout the World in Stop the War had not warned him and his fellow neocons of their predictable folly and its arrogant. Blair was warned by his own colleagues -such as art Hon Robin Cooke about the folly of following Bush. No sufficient thought or planning beyond the “mission accomplished victory”. The destabilising insanity and further jingoistic arrogance of sacking the Iraqi army and members of the Bath Party and instantly creating a whole tier of disenfranchised and resentful ( and now penniless young men ) is hard to credit. Did we not tell the US that from bitter years in N. Ireland this is not how you win hearts and minds and create dialogue. Instead we created a sectarian nightmare for the Iraqi’s at least Saddam ( evil that he was) was a predictable monster - what we created instead was an Isis vacuum and a sectarian hotspot. Bush and Blair May have been “sincere” but this does not excuse the lack of planning and resourcing of the “peace” or their ignorance and wilful deafness to the abundant warnings made!

The first reviewer has already made up their mind about history, even though only one ep is out. I am one ep in and it’s interesting. I’ll keep listening.
