Used to be Stimulating Discussion of Film
Two months ago I would have given the podcast five stars, but as of late it has become quite smug. While I have no problem listening to different opinions of film (I embrace it), when a reviewer starts to insult other viewers who opinion differs, it comes off as elitist. The last review of "The Hobbit" was as annoyingly hyperbole as the film itself. At one point the host says (I am paraphrasing) that he sees anyone's thought process who likes "The Hobbit" he sees as alien. I actually fell asleep during "The Hobbit". by no means did I love it but I quite enjoyed the last hour. It swept me away. I suppose that makes me an alien or what is really unsettling somehow inferior. The three star rating is based on previous podcasts like the ones on "Flight, "The Master" (my #1 film so far 2012, can I also like "The Hobbit" and not have "alien thought process"?) and many others. Just be aware if you like "Life of Pi", "Cloud Atlas", and "The Hobbit" prepared to feel annoyed by the cliche of the self righteous critic. And I realize that perhaps my review is hyperbole. The circle is round.
