If you’re hypothyroid, thinking this way keeps you sick
Listening to this hurts my soul. I’m hypothyroid with hashimotos. Most Endocrinologists love their T4 only medication. I was misdiagnosed for so many years. They would only check my TSH. It was very slightly elevated (but to western medicine it was normal at a 2.5.). I was SO tired, constipated, and gained weight even though I exercise daily and eat very clean and count macros and calories. I was always told I’m just getting older. Or that it was stress. I went to someone who checked my free t4. It was in range. It wasn’t until I went to a functional doctor where they FINALLY CHECKED my free T3 and RT3. My free T3 was tanked and well below range and my reverse T3 was at a 21! So slightly elevated TSH, in range free T4, hardly any T3, high RT3. Endocrinologists gave me T4 only (I wanted to use my insurance so since I had a diagnosis I went back to my regular system). It didn’t work. I felt so horrible because my body just converted the T4 to more RT3. I educated myself out of pure desperation and learned I needed T3 and less T4. I found “the thyroid fixer” podcast. That podcast has changed my life! Dr. Amie listens to you, thinks outside of the box, and her lab tests span 5 pages so that she gets an entire picture. It took some tweaking but now on 90mg armour with 50 mcg of t3. No heart palpitations- no issues that endo’s freak out about when they hear you’re on T3 medication- but I feel like I’m 20 again. I feel normal! I go to the bathroom daily! No endocrinologist would have gotten me here with the mindset of this podcast (titled hypothyroidism). They’re so stuck on only checking TSH and maybe T4. What about free T3, what about reverse T3? This is so common if you read comments online. I really cringed on this podcast when the one doctor said to send them to a psychiatrist (before trying T3!). I was told I was crazy too, but the right doctor fixed me. Telling us we are depressed, stressed or crazy because you aren’t doing your job is infuriating. All you have to do is go read experiences online. Go watch some patient experiences on tik tolk. It’s so upsetting. If you’re hypothyroid go functional. Endocrinologists that think like this podcast gaslight you because they won’t open their minds. Yes the education and studies are important but to just stick with one medication means you’re in a box. Many people can benefit from T3. I actually have two other friends who take T3 in NDT also after synthroid didn’t work and feel so much better. There have to be some great endocrinologists out there but so many seem to treat just like this podcast using the “gold standard”. Problem is the gold standard in the books doesn’t fit everyone! Go check out littlemissdiagnosed on tik tok. Her Dec 10, 2023 video says it all.
