The very definition of an odyssey
I've been hooked on this right from episode '0'. Jens, Yavar and Clark are trying something quite special here: a chronological exploration of Jerry Goldsmith's career. The very early work, which the Odyssey has covered so far, has been fascinating. Goldsmith's output is so vast that there is always something new to discover and the podcast hasn't disappointed in unearthing these gems. The hosts review the music in the context of the film or episode it serves. They highlight themes, approaches and development, and debate the merits of choices made by Goldsmith. Interestingly, at the end of each cast, they compare the mediums, music against the visual, to which the music tends to be of higher quality so far. I'm anticipating what (or if there) would be an exception… The best thing is that they've just started! I'm excited to hear the later chapters in Goldsmith's career, and more familiar ones. If you're a film music fan and a Goldsmith fan (you would be certainly be both) then you need to subscribe to this podcast.Read full review »

This is a stellar podcast about my favorite film composer. Yavar, Clark, David and (from earlier episodes) Jens are excellent hosts—they’re clearly knowledgeable as well as hardcore Goldsmith fans themselves. As of this writing, the Odyssey podcast is only up to 1960-61, but this deep,...Read full review »
