Good try Andrew Bolt for having a look at it. “As the three daughters have their most prized possessions, religious relics investigated by a Priest…Which stand for a powerful metaphor for the attitudes and beliefs of…his family and his class” - James Bolt Seriously? Some are deemed real and...Read full review »

They just interrupt each other, and even when they don’t interrupt each other, you can hear one of them trying to to interject.

Stop interrupting ya knucklehead.

I never write reviews but I couldn’t help but write one for this podcast. I started with Karamazov and haven’t been able to stop listening since. I think I’ve finally found two people who share my enthusiasm for literature! Their genuine love for the authors and their ideas is such a breath of...Read full review »

My only criticism is the talking over one another at times which interrupted the flow and leaves me rewinding to try and decipher what was said. I do love how enthusiastic and familiar they are with the books and how they bring the story to life.

I only wish I could write this review with some of the literary brilliance that these experts point out & describe. I especially appreciate that they give me a good background about each author. I hope to find many more hours of these experts because they teach me every listen.

This is an excellent podcast. I’m a Backlisted fan, and this is also first class.

From Saudia Arabia thank you all, this was so useful. And yes, couldn't agree more, Joseph Roth was definitely, definitely unhappy😂Read full review »

The secret of a successful show—It’s about you listening to them arguing. It’s really about them.

I simply love the review of great literature. These guys are excellent and the chosen books are indeed great works. I only wish they would not be talking over each other so much, many times screaming, other talking so softly, it is annoying to have to constantly change the volume. With a little...Read full review »

No academic jargon here. Just what I as a reader want: what makes this book stand out, it’s strengths and weaknesses in clear, concrete terms; relevant biographical and historical background.

It’s an eye opener for me! Bravo to you guys, you’ve found a time to reread these books for us listeners and to make an analysis of everything what goes along with the book. So insightful!! For instance I’ve never understood why people like so much Wuthering Heights, it was too depressing, dark...Read full review »

If you were expecting a decent analysis of this literary masterpiece, you would be disappointed. This episode consists of two guys who cannot wait for the other guy to finish his sentence so he can interject his own. It was irritating to listen to all the cross talks and interruptions. If you...Read full review »

Especially loved Episode 10. I’ve read The Brothers Karamazov twice. The podcast inspires me to read it a third time.

I really appreciate these men and their ability to define and articulate the underlying questions within the great books. At times it can seem like there is tension between the hosts but I am willing to keep my nose out of their interpersonal relationships and just enjoy as they share their...Read full review »

I really tried to like this but had to give it up. Roskam’s continual interruptions, where he breaks in in mid-sentence with “and and and ...” is just too annoying. He just can’t wait to hear his own voice. Bolt’s continual statements of “absolutely correct” are also annoying. It is in effect...Read full review »

Got to say I find the characterization of England as the least worst colonizing country to be bizarre. We’re talking about a country that purposely infected Native Americans with small pox, starved a million Irish to death (with a million more displaced) and were still at it in India during WW2....Read full review »

Listen to two men talk over one another for an hour without, seemingly, a set structure to the discussion.

I found you by accident and was thrilled to see two of my favorite novels on your list—The Leopard and The Radetsky March. Those are two brilliant novels that should be more widely read. Your conversations about them were most insightful and reminded me of details I had long forgotten. I also...Read full review »

Love this but it can be hard work with - WW1 sorry WW2 - misstatements which can be irritating & make listening stressful I realize it makes it “spontaneous” but some rehearsal please No such missteps in the Bolt Report!!

I’ve come late to this series, just now completed Zorba, Book 4. I love the format of Andrew and John passionately discussing their selections with James bookending the presentation as introduction and sign-off. I’ll look in on IPA Young Readers’ too but first let me complete these 10 great...Read full review »

A great discussion about some amazing books that should be in everybody's library. You may not agree with everything the hosts say but it will prompt much discussion. Both hosts are articulate and passionate about their love of literature and it's intoxicating. Do give this one a try!Read full review »

This is a quality podcast with insightful discussion. If you haven't read the books keep in mind that they normally discuss much of the story. If you don't want a spoiler, you'll want to read the books first.Read full review »
