More than just a Habit
My Mondays inevitably go like this. I wake up, get ready for the day and settle down to work. I’m full of the typical Monday slump—the internal workweek motor is coughing, sputtering how it would rather nestle in the covers and read a good book. I offer it music, a nice drink, and a comfy chair, but to no avail. And then it hits me—it is Monday, and Jonathan Rogers has graced us with another episode of The Habit. The work engine crackles to life (I should probably have it checked) and I whisked away for about half an hour (give or take) into a delight conversation rooted in a deep love for words, truth, goodness, and beauty. There is something to be learned for each episode of this podcast. The guests are insightful and cover facets of writing I did not know existed. If you’re a writer at some point you will hear a comment and think, “Someone else thinks about writing the same way!” But before you get too comfortable you’re introduced to someone with ideas that make you consider things you never have—or perhaps you have pondered but never had the words to express it. Jonathan Rogers is a wonderful host, and he draws out some great conversations from his guests. If you have yet to begin this podcast, I encourage you to listen to every one.

The Habit is a major source of joy and encouragement for me, and is a weekly opportunity to see the world though other’s eyes. I am constantly inspired to, as is often said in the show, tell a truer story than ones the world tries to give.

The Habit is the podcast that got me habituated to podcasts. No podcast I’ve met yet can match the unique, profound, and inspiring thoughts in every single episode of this one. I’ve not only gained courage for my writing (and more book recommendations than I’ll ever be able to explore), but...Read full review »

Some of the best books I’ve read in the last couple of years I was introduced to through this podcast. I highly recommend this podcast for the interviews themselves, and for the books and other art that are discussed in them.
