Hi all, I recommend this....my knowledge of ancient Greece came mostly from middle school history, the myths, the Iliad and the Odyssey and some knowledge of the plays, democracy, and the Plato,Socrates, Aristotle, Alexander thread. As a scientist I love the way Ryan as historian weighs theories fairly and cites evidence clearly. I agree with some of the other reviews that the delivery is a little off....it sounds as if Ryan is reading from his written work a little automatically, and believes this is the right way to read, rather than attempting to sound natural. However, he speaks very clearly, has pleasant intonation and varies his pitch nicely, so I find it good listening. I have only listened to the first 12 podcasts, but plan to stick with the whole series. (There are a few mispronunciations, such as the word "cavalry" being pronounced as "calvary" which has happened about five times so far).Read full review »

I used the History of Rome podcast to study for my comprehensive history exams in graduate school, and I was devistated to find out there was no comparable podcast for Greek History. But now there is! I will be recommending to my collegues who have yet to take their exams!
