From an otherwise good podcast, it shocks me to find you excusing the racist behaviors of President Wilson in the episode “The Birth of a Nation”. I suppose in order to keep the idea alive that Wilson was anything but a huge failure to this country you would have to excuse his overt racist ideas...Read full review »

This would be in my top 3 favourite podcasts. Well researched, and professionally delivered. His WWII stories are top class. I'll be sad once I've binged all the episodes, it is a tough benchmark to beat.Read full review »

I’m a history junkie so love the details. My only complaint is the music. I just don’t enjoy it and always trying to fast forward through it.

So I have to give this 5 stars cause I appreciate it so much. I’m more than a history “buff” my wife would say that I study an “embarrassing” amount of history. 😂. So this pod is always here to come back to… so I listen in spurts.. im currently on episode 210. The one negative I have to...Read full review »

Mark Painter does an incredibly detailed job in describing the political, economical, social and cultural events of the century. This allows us to really understand the backdrop for the big events that we all know of (e.g. the wars). Highly recommend for anyone who wants to understand how we have...Read full review »

This podcast is fantastic. It’s basically an audiobook, but it’s satisfying my exact aim which is to learn about and understand more about the history that leads us to where we are today (and how it all fits together). Thoroughly enjoying. Thank you for making this.

I have really enjoyed hearing about the important and famous people of the early 20th century. Scientists, explorers, generals, writers, artists, inventors, politicians etc. It’s a vast scope of history. The show has hundreds of episodes and is really well executed by Mark. I was going though Mike Duncan withdrawal when I stumbled upon this podcast and was blown away. There is something here for everyone even (art, science, politics, sports, and yes the wars). Excellent and thoughtful writing and long term planning. The premise of a chronology of such a well-documented period as the 20th century seems almost impossibly hard to execute but believe it or not, he’s doing it.

The scope is incredible and the 20th century comes to life in this simple, colourful and very well told story. The attention to details helps build a vivid image and becomes lively rather than overwhelming. Even when the author leaves on a tangent you can only follow.

I’ve been listening to this podcast since 2016 by now, and it moves at about 5-6x the speed of the years it covers, so anyone who is here for a neat and tidy Mike Duncan narrative may be disappointed.
