As shallow or deep as the strength of its contributors
A great idea but… yes, unfortunately there has to be a 'but’. In episode I’ve just listened to, ‘Can We Defeat Islamic State?’, the reporter, Helena Merriman, is hampered by the narrow Western viewpoint of so many contributors. For example, their failure to understand the apocalyptic worldivew of IS whose followers really do believe we are in the End Days and would welcome the arrival of western ground forces in Syria. All the better to die as martyrs. It’s a Doomsday cult of the worst kind. Making martyrs of them would only increase the warped validity of their beliefs. Kinda undermines what a lot (but not all) of the show’s contributors say. Unfortunately, HM also falls for the right-wing stereotype of calling refugees ‘migrants’ so I can’t give it five stars.Read full review »
