Subject is riveting, the narrator’s voice not so much
I heard about this situation in Rutherford county and wanted to listen to this podcast to do a deeper dive into the subject. I found this storyline and the details to be an excellent although heartbreaking picture of what happened to these kids. The only negative is the narrator had a strange way of talking. She spoke like high school girls that drag out their words and almost have a Valley girl tone when they are trying to be cool. It’s hard to describe. She does a weird drag at the end of her sentences. It’s so distracting. At times, I would be listening and suddenly would be yanked out of the story because of the odd way the narrator was talking. I don’t know if this is her public speaking voice that she puts on for speaking engagements. Sometimes I heard a normal tone, but it was rare. I think the podcast material itself is excellent and I appreciate the work that went into it. However, I would highly suggest the narrator work with a coach before she records another podcast.

I want to hear this story but the narrator’s voice is too nasally and condescending.

This is the same high quality podcast that we have come to expect from Serial. Thank you for telling these important stories.

You will note a review indicating narrration is an issue. If you don’t want to hear female journalists report their stories in their own words…. The I guess don’t listen. Big eye roll. These comments about narration reek of sexism. Her narration and content is great.
