Trauma runs deep
I spent most of my juvenile life in places similar. It’s altered me... they didn’t know what they were sending me to. It didn’t work, probation violation sent back, over and over again. Finally my 18th birthday was my reprieve, I was free...damaged but free.

Thank you for telling many of our story that no one would believe coming from a “troubled kid”.

Amazing podcast! My heart breaks for Daniel’s parents, but Daniel’s best friend Nick is the one who really made me cry. He loved and cared about his friend so much. You can hear it in his voice. I hope he has somehow managed to live a good life despite the tragic loss of his best friend.

I remember the media buzz around “tough love” schools in the 80s. The Lost Kids is a long overdue examination of how truly terrible they actually were, and still are.
