Eh
The temptation after listening to the pilot episode might be to make the old lame "Well there's an hour wasted" joke, but it's not really wasted if it convinces a listener to skip the next several months of episodes until it can be demonstrated that this podcast will be better. Like a lot of people who are witty on the spur of the moment and sometimes funny in conversation and banter, head Ogle Patrick flounders more than a little when he has to provide extended content. Although he makes a great choice in Marisa Mohi -- one of the few really creative contributors the website has had over the years -- as a co-host, he motormouths too much of the time to let her add as much as she probably could. Picking Louis Fowler -- one of the other few really creative contributors the website has had over the years -- as a co-contributor for the pilot was also a strong choice. Louis gets some more airtime as Patrick interviews him on some recent articles as well as his scary heath issues, but again whether because of nervousness or other reasons he gives his guest less time than he really should in order to make the show more interesting. GIven that my comments on the website -- when they make it through moderation, which is not often -- have been regularly harsh on Patrick's posts, it might seem like this is just taking a chance to dump on him. OK, fair enough. But the site has been around long enough to have developed something of a profile and if Patrick can dial himself back enough to keep the TLO show from becoming the Patrick Riffs Show then he might be able to use that profile to feature some interesting guests and be worth the time spent listening.Read full review »
