New Statesman Labour Conference Issue
Pretty awful, even by their usual standards - quite a lot of time devoted to their hotel accommodation and then lengthy mansplaining from Stephen Bush - with accompaniment of appreciative / sycophantic laughter from the female members of the panel.at his turn of phrase Unfortunately the music is sometimes the best thing about these podcasts - what a contrast with the v high quality NS World Review Bring back Helen Lewis ! 15 October Pod Much better this time, mostly down to Tim Ross in first half. Less of the “like” and “right” punctuating Stephen’s contribution in part 2, but comment outweighed analysis and - beyond saying that whoever the Labour leader there would always be unjustified / bad faith criticism - not that coherent. Like the music ! Just listened to Chris Deerin’s contribution about the current state of the health service in Scotland Shouldn’t the NS Scotland’s editor try harder to conceal his v obvious ( you might say strident) anti-SNP prejudices ? He made no effort to explain the current problems of the NHS north of the border and made no mention of the possible causes - I understood that medical and social care is better co-ordinated than in England, so perhaps that’s not so much of a problem there - other than a statement that the Scottish govt had failed to reform - and no reference to what those reforms might involve So less prejudice and more basic reporting please !

Smart, lucid, incisive, and depressingly realistic. I appreciate the in-depth pop culture analysis almost as much as the politics.

An entertaining and insightful discussion of British politics every week. The two regular hosts, in particular, are excellent.
