“As somebody who has been so deeply impacted by the PJO Universe, and the fates must have been on my side as I stumbled across this podcast while perusing Spotify. Thank the gods.
(Please skip the next two paras if you don’t want my life story)…
My childhood obsession was Percy Jackson. It was all-consuming from the age of 9 until the 2nd series ended when I was about 17. I would analyse the books to the letter, researching Greek mythology (even reading the Iliad at 14 because I was that cool). PJO sparked an academic fire which eventually led me to be accepted to study law at Oxford, despite my background.
I don’t want to reveal too much, but Annabeth’s character gave me permission to be who I am. I didn't have role models in my reality or fiction. There weren’t compelling female characters in the types of books I wanted to read; much less, flawed girls who had agency and impact. She is everything we want Hermione to be and so much more.
In short, I can’t possibly put into words the impact these books have had on me. I was hesitant to try this podcast having never heard a ‘book’ one before and not wanting you to do it ‘wrong’. But I’m so glad I gave it a shot. You get it so ‘right’; even better than I could’ve hoped. Your humour fits so well with Percy’s (it’s a match made in Elysium). Your insights are thoughtful and there’s clearly a lot of genuine heart put into this project. I’ll be waiting anxiously for each new episode. In the meantime, is it healthy for me to re-re-re-read a book I pretty much have committed to memory while eating only blue food? I guess I’ll find out…”Read full review »
