Losing its purpose
I started listening to the Newsagents last summer as it launched. The journalists drew me in: Sopel and Maitlis were the backbone of a different time at the BBC. A better time. Clearly they were done and their fresh approach outside the org was welcome. A mixture of US and UK politics made it worth following. However, a year down the road it has become obsessed with Johnson and Trump. Both buffoons who neither call out. Ms Maitlis is like a giggly sixth form student who seldom takes their guest to task, and Sopel has resorted to dropping the F-bomb and thinks it is cool. His recent kissing up to Farage was unfortunate. Enough said. I will happily listen to Lewis Goodall’s solo broadcasts, they have granularity and make sense minus the egos, but enough of the old BBC celebrity journalists. Their pedigree was strong, this product less so. Better and broader content is available from the unlikely pairing of Campbell and Stuart.
