I used to really enjoy this podcast, or rather in its previous iteration (Americast) when they were on BBC Sounds, but now it often sounds like a free for all with Jon and Emily talking over one another making it sometimes difficult to hear the point being made because they are both too eager to...Read full review »

Jon sopal is exhausting to listen to, he’s like an angry old man yelling all the time. The show can be quite euro centric and very biased towards one side on the Israel conflict. It’s a news show, it shouldn’t have such obvious biases cause it’s stale! But yeah it passes the time ok, atleast...Read full review »

I think they demonstrate why it is useful to have rules on impartiality. They have become even more opinionated and it doesn’t help to inform, educate, or even entertain!

Absolutely loved this podcast when it started. As European citizen and an American citizen, I appreciated Emily Mathis and her stellar well thought out observations. However, recently the show has become almost democratic propaganda and spends most of the time bashing Trump and Republicans. Will...Read full review »

Listened of “Old men and Corrupt Tyrants”. Nearly wanted to throw my phone at the wall again. While you play clips of Trumps insanity your comment basically treat Biden and Trump as equals with their own flaws. Biden flaw is being a little older than Trump yes. Trumps flaws are insanity, love of...Read full review »

It is sadly quite a commonplace experience these days to listen to a well-reviewed podcast, hoping to be informed about a complex of issues with nuance and depth, and with bemusement realising that this is biased, obnoxious and worse than uninformative because it comes at you with all the baubles...Read full review »

Same with their other show, there is a deeper agenda. I’m neither republican nor democrat.

I love this show but I honestly thing there’s room for more profanity. Huge fans of the hosts and it’s a pleasure to have them help me understand the world.

Give me Bolton, for his “analysis”, which won’t have come on much since Iraq and get 1 star.

Enjoying listening to an outsider perspective on the US as an American. Keep up the great work.

No Emily - the fact that the questioner of the Ivy League Presidents was a republican politician is irrelevant, the presidents’ prevarication was simply shocking.

There is some thoughtful, incisive stuff here, but claims for the righteousness of its journalistic objectivity is undermined by the presence of HSBC - arch fossil fuel and arms industry investor - as lead sponsor. Also, and less importantly, presenters doing their own ‘relaxed chat’ ads is sort...Read full review »

Excellent and authoritative insight and analysis offered by Emily and Jon, delivered with true-to-character humour and wit. They cover all the big issues, and aren’t afraid to foray into controversial issues and offer their informed opinions. Feels like an informative chat with two very well...Read full review »

This podcast demonstrates that whatever determines success at the bbc (and now lbc) it’s not interviewing ability. A masterclass in how to be crawling and obsequious to people who agree with you and dismissively patronising to everyone else. May god grant us all the unfounded self regard of...Read full review »

Great podcast but is the swearing necessary?

From the awful theme tune/jingle to the lazy journalism this isn’t a patch on the old Americast as it’s missing the most credible element - Anthony Zurcher. The latest episodes using dubious polling (yet again) as a springboard to pay for Maitless to have a free junket in the US is the last...Read full review »

I missed Matlis and Soaps on Americast, so glad to have them both back! And without the impartiality rules on the BBC, they can be totally frank!

Great to have John and Emily (and just the two of them) back together commentating on all things USA. Love the show. Can we have more than one a week? Or in a longer format.

I like your podcast. I suggest though that the focus ought to be much more on the reasons why 75% of Republicans would apparently still vote for him. Given the serious offences he partially admitted himself (eg the White House docs), there are some key lines of enquiry for you to pursue all...Read full review »

Great podcast and thankfully none of the tedious recaps of the facts by Lewis along with his endless pauses and interrupting of others

“This.. .. ..is the Newsagents” “We.. .. ..are a big deal” Every single day, the biggest event in the world has just happened, and only these two can explain the gravitas of it all properly. I started listening to the Newsagents last summer as it launched. The journalists drew me in: Sopel and Maitlis were the backbone of a different time at the BBC. A better time. Clearly they were done and their fresh approach outside the org was welcome. A mixture of US and UK politics made it...Read full review »

Our pre-evening ritual of The News Agents has now been enhanced with our weekly USA treat. With our son and his family now living in Red PA. This insight is such an easy way to decode what is going on Thank you M&S

My son lives in the USA so I like to keep informed about what’s going on there. I read the New York Times and listen to a couple of other podcasts, and this is fast becoming my favourite.

The best ever signings by Global (plus Lewis of course).. Brilliant to have them back on the USA. Trouble is between this and the News Agents, it is so addictive that weekends are spent just waiting for Mondays.

I’m an American who has been fascinated by British politics ever since the 2016 Brexit referendum was an early indicator of the global insanity that was beginning to unfold that year.
