“I like your podcast. I suggest though that the focus ought to be much more on the reasons why 75% of Republicans would apparently still vote for him. Given the serious offences he partially admitted himself (eg the White House docs), there are some key lines of enquiry for you to pursue all around the lack of commitment to the rule of law and principles of (liberal tolerant) democracy among the following:
- many conservative media outlets
- the leadership of the Republican Party in countenancing him as a candidate (impossible to imagine in Western Europe)
- and most importantly among the population: what are the factors that need to be addressed among the above mentioned 75%. They want to believe the story he tells them and like in response to any demagogue it requires courage among the right thinking to address the lies more intelligently, in simple terms. Voters have to realise that what is on offer from Trump is, in the end, a regime very similar to Putin’s. And they have to be shown what this means for ordinary people.
So I suggest bring on more of the key people that enable his success and quiz them on their commitment to the rule of law and liberal democracy.”
