A pleasing weekly series of chats and interviews !
I’ve just driven from the Yukon to Saskatchewan and since radio reception is not possible through much of the northern portion (and I only listen to CBC), I put on The Next Chapter. Podcasts I’m glad I downloaded (though I didn’t remember I had!). Saved my tofu, I’ll tell you. So great, pleasing, intelligent, dignified, and literature-loving. The adverts, of course always two notches louder than what we really WANT to hear, are but a mild vexation (sound off, set timer to one minute). There are nice sound themes (such as that before the “Dog-Eared” feature), their version of the Proust questionnaire, a feature wherein a renowned international work is matched by a Canadian “similar” one. It’s a joy and a celebration. Whether you are a mystery junkie or into cookbooks, or la-di-da literary fiction only, you’ll love this if you like books. Me, I think my fave occasional shows is the kid lit panel.

I love Shelagh’s interviews. I don’t like the way the producers cut in with ads about other CBC shows. Sometimes they cut in in mid sentence, and they do it at a volume that is much greater than Shelagh’s volume. This would be five stars but for the CBC’s shabby production values.
