An important witness
Bears witness to the difficult but important fact of how physical violence against children is such a core part of the control in some high demand religions. They might smile and wear smart suits and make delicious food and look very harmonious, but it comes at a very high price and children have so little choice. It’s shocking how much can be gotten away with even today. This report hopefully helps highlight how much more we can do as a society to understand coercive control and protect children from parental violence in the name of ‘discipline’. If the Australian royal commission had included physical violence within institutions it would have been even more revealing. Respect and comfort to everyone who has survived parental violence and recognised its harms, here’s to healing through acknowledgement of the harm and ending the cycle for the next generations.

No justice will come for victims of CSA until we have more fearless reporting like this that holds the feet of the powerful to the fire. Or, well, until we have guillotines. Whichever comes first.

Camille Bianchi has done an incredible job of journalistic digging in this podcast. Fearless and thorough. But she also manages to do this with sensitivity to the survivors and interviewees. This is a top piece of Australian journalism. Ms Bianchi is clearly one to watch.
