“This is a quality podcast with good analysis and awareness of issues around the game and culture in which it is played. I found it relaxed, informative and humorous.
Unfortunate to see unpleasant far right elements leaving a comment here under the heading ‘Virtue Signalling Again’ (Doc1313). If ever there was a case of ‘if you have nothing sensible (sic) to say, say nothing’…
For a start, caring about those other than yourself or your own community is not virtue signaling, it is just caring and emotional maturity. The fact is that it is just a small minority at grounds that boo players taking the knee up and down the country. Your hope that this is not the case does not make it not the case.
The deliberate fake misunderstanding and conflation of the vast worldwide BLM cause with a UK tiny activist group numbering dozens that few people are aware of let alone support is tiresome and fools no one anymore. Fact: BLM are not a political party. No one believes your probable racism is a heroic crusade against the Marxist threat to the nation. Grow up.
Nowhere in this week’s podcast are those supporters who booed called racists. Although I understand why you may feel the general public consider you and the booers in the crowd to be so.
Doc1313’s last paragraph is utter silliness. It is a well established fact that England fans have a history of booing their own black England players. It was known to happen at a number of clubs also (most know who they were/are). The BLM campaign is supporting the request that ethnic minorities are treated equally to the Caucasian minority in society in general. So your comment on black players is even more irrelevant than it is inaccurate.
Long term progress in society only ever goes one way. At some point the BLM protests will die away along with your kind of beliefs and outlook from society. Until then, players taking the knee is specifically aimed at the likes of you.”
